Hello again! I know it’s been awhile, been busy as all bloody hell but what’s new.  Working really hard on getting canvases and other painted materials ready for my first gallery opening in 15 years.  It’s alot of fun playing around on canvas again and messing with mediums that i haven’t touched in so very long. Wish I had more to report, but been busy doing other stuff too. Odd that as we age, the passion for the art doesn’t fade at all, but the shit we have to pile on top of it makes it even more a labour of love than it was when we were kids. I am sure plenty of you oldschool heads reading this can relate.

That being said, the picture you see are looking to be the few tried and true keepers of the torch around my area.  Doing the right thing like i mentioned before. Getting the technique down on paper before they go out making messes. Doing the art because its ART not because it’s crime.  I look forward to seeing these ones around a lot in the future.

As for me, sooo much more coming, but I’ll let you know when it comes.  Seems more things trying to happen than are actually happening lately, but I am sticking to my guns and trying to pass this thing on with all of it’s traditions and practices intact.  See y’all soon.

nitro888_50blurBeen a minute since I posted on here so I thought to share some insight on the life the Gone 84ster. Since my last post, I have put three new coats of paint on my favorite wall in Altoona. Would love to get a monster production up, but I just don’t have the resources at this point.  I really need to buy a ladder hahahaha.  All-in-all, I will consider today’s effort a success in that it was all done with dollar cans and still came out looking pretty decent.  I only have one shitty pic of it because it was pretty dark out, but if it’s still up next week I will add a few to the gallery.  In the meantime, you will have to deal with the shitty blurred pic with the saturation cranked up.

From time to time I get a small audience gathering as I paint and lots of questions, which is a good thing. More often than not its things like “how do you do that” or “can you write my name in graffiti” or something of that sort.  Every now and again I’ll see the one or two inspired kids that really want to learn how to do it but past experience has shown me that they usually go their own way when they figure out that it’s actually art and takes work.  Some will roll off and do just enough to impress their friends or girlfriends and never actually learn anything but what they can copy off of the internet.  They buy the expensive paint online, load their pockets with caps and then proceed to make a god-awful mess of their neighbourhood in the effort to impress those who don’t know any better.  I am sure you have seen them around, the fake gangstas speaking some foreign language they presume to be “street” and just wreaking of “wannabe”.

Well today, after two years of beating on this wall, I have found a new audience, or rather they have found me.  A few of the local kids popped up and sat there…watching.  Asking the good questions, talking about their blackbooks and how they have to refine their letters.  This to me is an inspiration. It’s one of the few reasons I haven’t retired from the sport yet.  The craft needs to be passed on in all of its forms.  The LIFESTYLE just as much as the techniques that make us writers different from most of the society that comsumes our art. Could it be, that there is a real future for graffiti art in this town?  Is it really possible that there are some local kids who don’t equate writing graffiti with snoop dogg and crippin’?  One of these young cats was even bold enough to show me one of his drawings.  I was amazed to see simple, clean letters.  No arrows, no 3d, no chips or none of that shit that the fakers like to do as soon as they pick up a pencil.  This young man may very well have the right idea.  A notion of concept that escapes those who are in it for the wrong reasons.  I am not going to say that they were very good letters, definitely not the work of a skilled craftsmen, but the beginnings, if pursued of an enlightenment offered only to the true seeker.  I never did catch their names, but I was sure to extend the invitation to stop out with their blackbooks any day when I am out there.  Its been a really long time since I have witnessed kids that were as dedicated to this vocation as I am.  It takes a certain kind of insanity, it really does. But I am hoping they continue to pursue this and will forward this tradition in any way possible.

I added a new section to the gallery today called MODELS. Every graffiti writer loves seeing their work used outside of the graffiti world. Whether it be on some random TV show, somewhere hidden in the background of a newspaper or magazine picture or whatever. It just adds to the premise that graffiti is an ARTFORM as opposed to just some petty crime done by uneducated hooligans. Personally, I enjoy seeing my stuff photographed as the backdrop for people and especially beautiful women! Its as simple as looking around myspace or the other social networking sites out there. The local photographers, both amateur and pro, enjoy using my pieces as backdrops for photos. Its a match made in heaven for sure. The new gallery section showcases the better of these photos and will be growing as time goes on I’m sure….enjoy

As promised. Here is the 1st video in the series. This will be one of 6 or so(haven’t finished editing) in the series. My intention is to demonstrate to those that are trying to learn, some of what goes into painting on a wall. If anything, there ae multiple tips and tricks that you can pick up regarding graffiti letters, planning, spacing, filling and outlining your own pieces. I won’t even pretend that this is the way that everyone does it because there is no “way that everyone does it”. This isn’t even how I do it everytime. But still, for those who don’t have access to a writer in your area, this is at least something to learn from.

painting big fatty graffiti letters! Was a shitty overcast day today but I had to get something up for Halloween. That, and I wanted to make a video and maybe some step by step stuff for the site.  The editing is happening this weekend so hopefully I can have that put together and posted next week.  All in all, it came out okay. Definitely not my greatest feat, I made the mistake of working on the skull last because i was trying to conserve tape for the video, but its still worth posting I suppose.  Still waiting for graffitimassive to be back up.  I am hating JustHost right now.  Seriously. Of course, thats why I started my own hosting company I guess.  If you haven’t received an invitation to the gutterhost yet, get at me because I still have a couple of slots available.  I had to limit the accounts because I want it to be manageable. Its still a one man show so I want to be able to offer the best support possible.  In the meantime,  give hostgator a try. They are the best I’ve found so far.  Pics of todays painting will be in the gallery.
